Initially the structure did the job well. The canopy needed re tying every couple of weeks after strong winds.
Within 2 months the cover started stretching. Within 4 months, the canopy was collecting water in moulded depressions rather than transferring water to the water butt. As it stretched, so water could gather at various points. The weight of water then re-shaped the canopy so it collected more. And so on.
With hindsight we might have made it last longer by tightening the ties periodicly.
The permaculture community used well over 200 litres of water from the butt early in the growing season. but by about June or July it was effectively beyond use.
The flooring is still good and usable for meetings and barbecues and it is still functioning well as inclement weather shelter.
